The Chennai Division of Southern Railway has issued a strict warning against the unauthorized pasting of posters, banners, stickers, or advertisements on trains and railway premises. The Railway has said that such actions are punishable under the Railways Act, 1989, and offenders will face penalties, prosecution, or imprisonment.A Southern Railway release highlighted that unauthorized materials have been observed on station premises, platforms, ticket counters, walls, train coaches, and interiors across the Chennai Division. The act not only defaces public property but also inconveniences passengers and affects the cleanliness and aesthetics of railway stations and trains.
To curb the practice, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and station staff have intensified inspections and special drives to identify and remove unauthorized advertisements. The Southern Railway urged commercial establishments, event organizers, and the public to seek permission from the Commercial Department before displaying any posters or notices, emphasizing the importance of maintaining clean, safe, and passenger-friendly railway premises.
