The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) is set to launch its first fleet of multi-axle Volvo buses by December, aiming to enhance passenger comfort and safety on long-distance routes. The 15-metre-long buses will feature advanced safety systems, improved driving ergonomics, and greater space, setting new standards for state-run intercity travel.
In the first phase, 20 buses will be deployed across major intercity routes, providing a premium travel experience to compete with private operators. Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar and Transport Secretary Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru, along with other officials, recently inspected the new buses at the Volvo manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.
While the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai currently operates single-axle Volvo buses, the new multi-axle models under SETC will offer increased capacity and enhanced passenger comfort, marking a significant upgrade in public transport services in Tamil Nadu.
