With the northeast monsoon intensifying over Tamil Nadu, Chennai has witnessed continuous heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, recording an average of 5.6 cm of rain. The city’s Nungambakkam area received the highest rainfall of 8.6 cm, while Ambattur recorded 7 cm, according to the Meteorological Centre.Due to the torrential rain, waterlogging was reported on several major roads, prompting the state government to declare a holiday for schools to ensure the safety of students.
Against this backdrop, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inspected the Command and Control Centre at the Ripon Building to review the city’s monsoon management operations. During his visit, he examined the complaints received through the control system, interacted with officials, and monitored real-time updates on rain-related issues across the city.
He also reviewed the functioning of pumps and drainage systems aimed at clearing accumulated rainwater from low-lying areas.Udhayanidhi Stalin directed officials to respond swiftly to all public grievances and ensure prompt communication of actions taken.
He urged teams to work with full dedication in managing emergency responses and highlighted the government’s commitment to mitigating urban flooding and maintaining public safety amid the ongoing northeast monsoon activity.
