Schools in Chennai will function as usual today, despite recent heavy rains, the Chennai District Collector has announced. While parts of northern Tamil Nadu and districts like Cuddalore, Viluppuram, and Tiruvallur experienced morning showers, the rains have eased in Chennai after early morning rainfall in some areas.
The Indian Meteorological Department had forecasted moderate to heavy rains, prompting an orange alert in several districts and school closures on October 22. However, the district administration confirmed that schools and colleges in Chennai will remain open today with no holiday declared.
Residents in Chennai and surrounding suburbs including Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Ranipet are advised to stay cautious as scattered rains may continue in parts of the day.
Meanwhile, other districts in Tamil Nadu experiencing heavier rainfall might see localized disruptions but no statewide closure orders have been issued. The administration is closely monitoring weather conditions and will announce any changes if necessary.
For now, Chennai’s students can expect normal school hours despite the recent wet spell.
