AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has blamed the Tamil Nadu government for poor handling of the kuruvai paddy harvest. He said farmers worked hard for months, but the state was not ready to receive the bumper crop.EPS said he had warned the government earlier to arrange enough storage and purchase centres. But no action was taken, he claimed.
Due to heavy rain in the delta districts, large heaps of paddy are getting wet and damaged. In many places, the paddy has started to sprout because it is lying in the open.
EPS also said the godowns are already full and the new harvest has no place to be stored. As a result, farmers are worried that they may not get a fair price for their crop.
He said farmers took loans and worked day and night to grow this crop. Now, because of the government’s delay, their hard work is going to waste.
EPS has urged the state to act immediately and start buying the paddy without delay.
