3 IITM professors to get Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar

Three professors from IIT Madras have been selected for the prestigious Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025 by the Government of India.

The awards recognize outstanding achievements in the fields of science and technology, honoring lifetime contributions as well as exceptional research and innovation.The three awardees are Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Pradeep Thalappil from the Department of Chemistry, and Shweta Prem Agrawal from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam has been selected for the Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award, which honors young scientists under 45 years for significant contributions.

Pradeep Thalappil has received the Vigyan Shri award, and Shweta Prem Agrawal also has been recognized in the Vigyan Yuva category.

The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is a national honor conferred in categories such as Vigyan Ratna, Vigyan Shri, Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, and Vigyan Team, covering multiple scientific disciplines.

These awards celebrate individuals and teams who have significantly advanced India’s scientific and technological capabilities.
