Revenue officials from Chengalpattu district sealed the Saravana Bhavan hotel operating near Chennai airport on the Chennai-Tiruchy National Highway. The hotel had been functioning on 40,000 square feet of government-owned land, valued at Rs 300 crore, after its lease period had expired.
The land was leased to the hotel management for commercial use, but the lease ended without the property being returned.
The Alandur court ordered the land to be handed over to the government, and acting on this, Chengalpattu District Collector D. Sneha directed the revenue officials to reclaim possession.
On Tuesday morning, revenue officials arrived with earthmoving equipment, evacuated hotel staff, removed the hotel signboards, and sealed both main entrances to the building. A notice was put up stating the land is now under the control of the Chengalpattu Revenue Department as per the court order.
This significant land recovery is part of ongoing government efforts to reclaim public land unlawfully occupied after lease expiry, protecting valuable public assets from unauthorized private use.
