In a major boost to the state’s digital and creative economy, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin announced that a Game Developers Hub will be established in Chennai within the next six months. The announcement was made during the 17th Indian Game Developers Conference (IGDC) 2025, held at the Nandambakkam Trade Centre.The initiative aims to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as a global innovation and gaming powerhouse by nurturing local talent and supporting startups in the gaming and extended reality sectors.
AVGC-XR Policy 2025 Unveiled
At the event, the state government also unveiled the AVGC-XR Policy 2025, which focuses on Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality. The policy outlines a strategic roadmap to create a vibrant ecosystem that promotes investment, training, and research in emerging digital media technologies.
Under this policy, regional centers will be established in Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, and Tirunelveli, enabling access to world-class infrastructure, mentorship programs, and incubation support for young creators and entrepreneurs.
Tamil Nadu’s Digital Growth Story
Tamil Nadu currently houses over 10,800 startups and records an impressive 11.19% IT sector growth rate, making it one of India’s leading states in technological and creative innovation. The upcoming Game Developers Hub is expected to further accelerate the growth of the AVGC-XR sector, attract global collaborations, and generate employment opportunities for skilled youth.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin emphasized the government’s vision to make Tamil Nadu the digital capital of South Asia. “The gaming and creative industries represent the future of technology and storytelling. Through this hub and policy, we aim to empower creators and make Tamil Nadu a hub for global innovation,” he said.
Industry experts welcomed the announcement, calling it a progressive step that aligns with the state’s broader Digital Tamil Nadu mission and enhances its reputation as a leader in creative technology and innovation.
