The Department of Visual Communication at Vels University, in collaboration with Director Vetrimaaran’s International Institute of Film and Culture (IIFC), has organized a five-day film festival from November 7 to 11, 2025, celebrating the legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja and his transformative contributions to Tamil cinema.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Former Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy, actor Sathyaraj, directors Ameer and Vetrimaaran, actress Rekha, and Vels University Founder Chancellor and producer Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh.
Speaking at the event, Director Vetrimaaran said the festival would serve as a fitting tribute to Bharathiraja’s artistic brilliance, social vision, and enduring impact on Tamil cinema.
Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, addressing the media, said, “It gives me immense pride to host this festival in honour of a true legend. Earlier, we paid tribute to Director Balu Mahendra, and this brings me the same joy.” He also revealed that ‘Vada Chennai 2’, starring Dhanush, will soon go on floors and expressed hope that Sathyaraj would play a key role in the film.
