Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru on Thursday alleged that the Union government’s failure to release funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission for the past 12 months has stalled 12 combined drinking water schemes in the State. He said the delay is hampering key projects under the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) that aim to provide safe drinking water to rural and urban residents. Nehru emphasized that the DMK government is actively working to improve drinking water supply with 428 new combined schemes launched across the State, benefiting over 17 lakh rural and 5 lakh urban residents in Tiruchy alone. The minister highlighted that grama sabha meetings held before the government’s formation revealed extensive complaints about poor water supply, which the current government is addressing.
