Coimbatore, Nov 26: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday inaugurated the newly built Classical Language Park in Coimbatore. The 45-acre first phase, developed at a cost of ₹208.50 crore, was opened to the public in the presence of cabinet ministers and district officials.The park is located within the Gandhipuram Central Prison complex. It forms part of a larger 165-acre project announced by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi during the World Classical Tamil Conference in 2010. Today’s launch marks the completion of the first phase.
The facility features 23 types of herbal gardens, a rose garden, terrarium, outdoor gym, and a walking bay. A special store selling products by Women Self-Help Groups is also part of the complex.
After the inauguration, Stalin inspected various sections, including the horticulture zone, solar panel installations, sculptures, battery-operated vehicles, and parking areas. The park also houses statues of the seven great patrons of Sangam literature, a children’s play area designed for the differently abled, a library, and an open-air auditorium with a 500-seat capacity. The Chief Minister also planted a sapling on the premises.
The park is now open to the public, offering a blend of cultural heritage, greenery, and modern amenities.
