The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued a red alert for six districts of Tamil Nadu on November 29, warning of extremely heavy rainfall as the state braces for intense northeast monsoon activity.
According to the weather bulletin, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur districts are expected to receive very heavy rainfall on November 28.
The heavy rain forecast comes as a deep low-pressure area over Malaysia and the adjoining Strait of Malacca has intensified into Cyclone Senyar. Although the cyclone is not expected to directly impact Tamil Nadu, its influence is causing widespread rainfall across several districts.
