Tamil Nadu Police intensified security measures across the state on December 6, 2025, marking the 33rd anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, with heightened vigilance triggered by recent Delhi car bomb blast ripples.
Over 1 lakh personnel, including 15,000 in Chennai, conducted thorough checks at bus/rail stations, worship sites, commercial complexes, and crowded areas to prevent untoward incident.
At Egmore and Chennai Central stations, passengers’ belongings underwent rigorous inspections, while night-long vehicle checks blanketed Chennai. Police raided private lodges to screen suspicious occupants, deploying sniffer dogs and metal detectors at key spots like Viluppuram stations.
Nationwide alerts prompted Tamil Nadu’s proactive deployment, focusing on public safety.
The 1992 Ayodhya demolition sparked riots killing over 2,000, making December 6 a sensitive date with past retaliatory violence in Pakistan/Bangladesh. Amid current threats, Tamil Nadu’s measures ensure communal harmony, with flag marches in sensitive districts like Mathura echoing nationally. No incidents reported so far.
