AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has strongly criticised the DMK government over the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu and urged it to focus on restoring public safety in its remaining four months in office. In a statement, EPS said that incidents reported over the last 24 hours clearly reflect the alarming state of law and order under the “Stalin model” of governance. He cited several violent crimes, including the tragic death of a Class 12 student who was assaulted in a clash between school students near Patteswaram in Kumbakonam, the murder of a vegetable vendor in Sirkazhi after being beaten with a weighing scale, the killing of a farmer in Tenkasi over a property dispute, and the shocking case in Salem where a youth was brutally murdered and beheaded in the Thoppur area. He also referred to an attempted robbery in broad daylight in Nagercoil, where a woman was intercepted on the road.
Stressing that education among students should promote growth and peace, EPS stated that violence was instead on the rise during the current regime, even leading to murder. He said the government should be ashamed for failing to control such escalating brutality. According to him, farmers, traders, women and youth are living without even the slightest sense of safety, regardless of day or night.
He blamed the collapse in law and order for the overall deterioration in the state’s development and accused the Chief Minister of being more focused on self-promotion than governance. Urging the DMK government to act responsibly, he called upon it to devote its remaining time in power to restoring law and order in Tamil Nadu.
