The AIADMK has strongly criticised the Tamil Nadu government’s expansion of the women’s ₹1,000 monthly rights quota, saying it is aimed at the upcoming Assembly elections in 2026, not at helping women.
According to the party, the DMK government waited 28 months before giving the benefit to more women, and is now relaxing rules to cover only some women just months before the polls. They claim this shows the scheme is a political act, not welfare for families.
AIADMK leaders also say the scheme was introduced only after pressure from their party. They argue that the government is using the rights quota as an election strategy rather than genuine support for women.
The ruling DMK, however, says the scheme helps women financially and empowers them across the state.
