Dhaka, Dec 18: India has temporarily closed its Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Dhaka amid escalating security concerns and threats from extremist elements and some Bangladeshi leaders, prompting diplomatic action between the two countries.The centre at Jamuna Future Park, which handles Indian visa services in Bangladesh’s capital, announced it would shut operations at 2 pm on Wednesday due to the prevailing security situation. Applicants with scheduled appointments were informed that their slots will be rescheduled for a later date.
In response to the developments, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned Bangladesh’s High Commissioner, Riaz Hamidullah, to express serious concerns about the threats and the deteriorating security environment affecting Indian diplomatic missions.
