AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami accused the DMK government of reviving the free laptop scheme for college students purely with an eye on the forthcoming elections.Palaniswami held discussions with beneficiaries who had received laptops during the previous AIADMK regime and said the DMK had discontinued the scheme earlier only because it was introduced by the AIADMK. He alleged that the present announcement to distribute 10 lakh laptops was not rooted in concern for students’ welfare but was aimed at winning the support of college-going youth.
The former Chief Minister said he was deeply distressed after interacting with current government school students, who complained that laptops had been denied to them during the DMK’s tenure. According to him, the absence of laptops had affected their scientific learning and digital exposure, placing their future at risk.
