Damascus, Dec 20: The United States has launched large-scale airstrikes on ISIS targets in Syria after an attack earlier this month killed two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter. The operation, “Hawkeye Strike,” began on Friday and targeted over 70 ISIS locations across central Syria. Fighter jets, helicopters, and rocket systems were used to hit militants, weapons stores, and key bases.
The strikes were carried out in retaliation for the December 13 ambush near Palmyra, where U.S. and allied forces were attacked. Several other soldiers were injured in that incident.
U.S. officials said the action is a strong warning to ISIS and not the start of a larger war. Syria has expressed support for the operation, while about 1,000 U.S. troops remain in the country to continue anti-terror efforts.
