Rameshwaram, Dec 23: Sri Lankan Navy arrested 10 fishermen from Rameswaram for allegedly crossing into their waters, seizing their boats as well. The incident has shocked the local fishing community, prompting calls for intervention by central and state governments.
The navy detained the fishermen, claiming they ventured beyond the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) while fishing. Their boats were confiscated, and interrogations are ongoing at a Sri Lankan naval facility.
Fishermen’s families expressed dismay, urging authorities to secure the release of the men and vessels. This follows a pattern of similar arrests, highlighting ongoing tensions in the Palk Bay region.
