SSenior BJP leader Piyush Goyal on Tuesday alleged that Tamil Nadu has suffered under the “corrupt” DMK regime.

Speaking to reporters here after holding preliminary talks with AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami in connection with the Assembly election next year, Goyal said he discussed with Palaniswami, plans for the coming months to prepare for the polls, due by March-April 2026.

A “better future” for the Tamil brothers, sisters and Tamil Nadu is the commitment of the NDA, PM Modi and Palaniswami, and it is important for people to get good governance and a development-focused regime, the Union minister said.

“We had good discussions about strengthening our political work together and fighting the 2026 Assembly election together as the NDA family under the leadership and guidance of PM Modi,” Goyal added.

Earlier, Goyal chaired separate meeting with the Central Committee and Core Committee members of the BJP Tamil Nadu unit at the party headquarters, Kamalalayam, to assess booth-level work, organisational readiness and constituency strategies. Senior leaders including State President Nainar Nagendran, and Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, MLAs and other key functionaries are expected to participate.

Piyush Goyal also attendsed a tea party hosted by Governor RN Ravi at Lok Bhavan later this evening. Senior BJP leaders and AIADMK honchos attend the meet.

The BJP and AIADMK, having recently revived ties, aim to build a strong front to challenge the ruling DMK, which they have accused of failing to fulfil its 2021 poll promises.
