Actor Shalini Pandey has teamed up with PETA India to promote a compassionate message encouraging people to adopt dogs and cats from shelters or the streets instead of buying them from breeders or pet shops.
At a recent event in Mumbai, Pandey unveiled the campaign poster and expressed her deep love for animals, especially desi (Indian street) dogs. She emphasised the joy and fulfilment she has experienced after adopting her own dog, Bir, from the streets, and urged others to consider giving homeless animals a permanent, loving home.
Wearing a T‑shirt that read “I love desi dogs”, the actor highlighted the importance of choosing adoption over purchasing pets, a step that can help reduce the large population of homeless animals and ensure more dogs find caring families. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the responsibility and rewards of adopting rescued animals and supporting humane treatment for all companion animals.
PETA India’s “Adopt, Don’t Shop” initiative also sheds light on the benefits of shelter adoption and encourages the public to welcome rescued dogs and cats into their lives, promoting a culture of compassion and care for animals in need.
