
A major fire broke out on First Avenue in Anna Nagar this evening, engulfing an old iron scrap shop and quickly spreading to a neighbouring house and a nearby library. Thick black smoke covered the area, triggering panic among residents and commuters in the busy locality.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot with three fire tenders and began firefighting operations to contain the blaze and prevent further spread. After an intense effort, firefighters managed to bring the situation under control.
Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or casualties at the time of reporting. Residents in the surrounding streets were temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine how the blaze originated.
