Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin today inaugurated a new international-standard hockey stadium in Coimbatore, marking a significant boost to sports infrastructure in the region.
The facility was officially opened at the R.S. Puram Corporation Higher Secondary School ground, in the presence of local officials and dignitaries.
The stadium has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 9.67 crore and features a 6,500-square-metre artificial turf designed to meet international hockey standards. The venue is expected to host national and international hockey events, and promote the game among youth in western Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin highlighted the state government’s commitment to developing sports facilities that can nurture talent and attract major competitions. He noted that this new hockey arena will serve as a key platform for athletes and supporters alike, encouraging more participation in field hockey across the region.
The event also saw the opening of other civic improvements, including wildlife care and relocation centres, reflecting a broader focus on both sports and community welfare. The inauguration was part of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s two-day visit to Coimbatore, where he participated in several public functions.
