At the Tiruttani Murugan Temple, the traditional Padi Thiruvizha was celebrated with grandeur yesterday, as it does every year on the final day of December. The festival saw thousands of devotees climbing the 365 sacred steps, symbolizing each day of the year, lighting camphor and offering prayers on every step. The celebrations began at the foothill with special rituals performed at the first step, after which devotees ascended the hill singing Thiruppugazh, Thevaram, Thiruvasagam, and other devotional hymns. In view of the festival and New Year, the temple remained open throughout the night, and a special midnight darshan was arranged for devotees.
Yesterday morning, Lord Murugan (Utsavar) was taken in a grand procession on the Silver Peacock Vahana through the temple streets, blessing thousands of worshippers who gathered to offer prayers with devotion and faith.
