The Tamil Nadu government is set to begin the distribution of tokens for Pongal gift sets across the state in just two days, bringing festive cheer to millions of families.

Officials announced that the scheme, aimed at supporting households ahead of the Pongal festival, has been structured to ensure a fair and organised distribution process at the grassroots level.

Under the welfare initiative, every eligible household will receive a Pongal gift set, which includes essential items traditionally used during the harvest festival. The list comprises grains, groceries, and other festive staples that will help families celebrate Pongal without financial strain.

With the tokens serving as proof of entitlement, beneficiaries can collect their gift sets from designated distribution centres in their respective localities.

The government has instructed local panchayats and municipal authorities to ensure that token distribution is carried out smoothly, with strict adherence to schedules and transparency. Officials will issue tokens to eligible residents beginning January 4, and subsequent collection of the gift sets will begin shortly thereafter.

Beneficiaries are urged to carry valid identity documents, including ration cards or government ID proofs, to collect their tokens and gift packages.

Authorities have also announced special arrangements to assist senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and those who may face difficulties reaching distribution points. Volunteers and local officials are expected to coordinate support services, ensuring that everyone entitled to the gift sets receives them without inconvenience.
