The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called on the State government to provide a ₹5,000 cash assistance to families ahead of the Pongal festival. The party said such financial support is necessary to help people manage festival expenses amid rising prices.BJP leaders stated that many households, especially those from economically weaker sections, are under financial strain and need direct support during the festive season. They urged the government to prioritise the welfare of the public and announce the assistance without delay.
Criticising the ruling administration, the BJP said existing welfare measures are insufficient to address the current cost-of-living pressures. The party warned that it would continue to raise the issue through protests and public campaigns if the demand is not considered.
