The much-anticipated Tamil cinema spectacle Thalaivar 173, headlined by Superstar Rajinikanth and produced by legendary actor Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), is gaining fresh momentum after weeks of uncertainty.

Initially announced as a landmark collaboration uniting two of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars — Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan — Thalaivar 173 is being positioned as one of the marquee Tamil films slated for release during Pongal 2027.

However, the project hit a bump late last year when director Sundar C, who had been introduced as the film’s first director, announced his exit from the venture due to “unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.”

His statement expressing regret over stepping down sparked intense discussion among industry watchers and fans alike.
