As political equations intensify ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran met AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the latter’s residence in Chennai’s Pasumai Salai to discuss constituency sharing and alliance strategy between the two parties.

The face-to-face meeting, which follows recent consultations involving senior BJP leaders and Union ministers, centred on the crucial issue of seat allocation between the AIADMK and the BJP within the broader National Democratic Alliance (NDA) framework. Reports suggest that the BJP is seeking a larger share of assembly constituencies compared with previous elections, based on its improved performance in recent polls.

Both leaders held “detailed consultations” on alliance arrangements and the possibility of including additional partners in the electoral front. According to sources, Nagendran and Palaniswami also discussed preparing for the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state and broader election-related plans.

The meeting is seen as part of ongoing seat-sharing negotiations between the AIADMK and the BJP, which have been in talks to strengthen their electoral strategy against rival parties ahead of the polls. While formal agreements are yet to be finalised, the interaction indicates continued coordination between the two key regional and national players in Tamil Nadu politics

The BJP and AIADMK have been discussing alliance terms, with constituency allocation emerging as a critical factor. Reports indicate that the BJP is pushing for a larger number of seats, reflecting its ambition to expand its legislative footprint in the state.
