Fans of Thalapathy Vijay have reason to celebrate this Pongal festival, as his blockbuster film Theri is set to re-release in theatres on January 15 marking the 10th anniversary of its original release. The announcement was made by producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu of V Creations, who shared a special poster of the film on social media, triggering excitement across fan communities.Directed by Atlee, Theri originally hit screens in 2016 and went on to become one of the most popular action entertainers of its time. The film stars Vijay in dual roles as DCP Vijaya Kumar IPS and Joseph Kuruvilla, and follows the story of a devoted father who must confront danger from his past to protect his daughter. Alongside Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson played key roles in the original release.
The re-release comes amid ongoing delays surrounding Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan, which had been eyed for a Pongal release but has been postponed due to censor and certification issues. As a result, the theatrical return of Theri is expected to fill the festive gap and give audiences a chance to relive the action-packed favourite on the big screen once again.
This re-release not only commemorates a decade of Theri’s success but also adds festive cheer to the Pongal lineup for Tamil cinema lovers across the world.
