The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has announced a festive break for students across the state in view of the upcoming Pongal festival. According to an official order issued on Monday, all schools — including government, aided, and private institutions — will remain closed for five days starting from January 14.
The holiday period begins with Bhogi, which marks the first day of the traditional Tamil harvest festival, and continues through the main Pongal celebrations. Schools are scheduled to reopen on January 19 (Monday) after the extended break.
The decision to grant five days of leave was taken on the instructions of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the Education Department said. The extended holiday is aimed at allowing students and school staff ample time to participate in family celebrations and cultural festivities associated with Pongal.
