With Thai Amavasai falling on Sunday, January 18, a large influx of devotees is expected to travel to Rameswaram to perform ritual observances. Anticipating heavy passenger movement, the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) has announced the operation of special bus services to facilitate smooth travel for pilgrims.According to a press release issued by SETC, additional buses will be operated on Saturday, January 17, from major cities to Rameswaram. Special services will depart from the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus in Chennai, as well as from Salem, Coimbatore and Bengaluru, to accommodate the increased demand ahead of the auspicious day.
To manage the return rush, SETC has also arranged special buses on Sunday, January 18, from Rameswaram to Kilambakkam (Chennai), Salem, Coimbatore, and Bengaluru. These measures are aimed at ensuring safe and hassle-free travel for devotees returning after completing their rituals.
Transport officials said the additional services are part of routine festive arrangements and advised passengers to plan their journeys in advance. The move is expected to significantly ease congestion and provide timely travel options for thousands of pilgrims visiting the holy town during Thai Amavasai.
