The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has approved the appointment of new presidents for 71 District Congress Committees (DCC) in Tamil Nadu, the party announced on Sunday. The appointments, cleared by the Congress President, take effect immediately as part of the party’s organisational restructuring under its Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan initiative aimed at strengthening the party at the grassroots level.
As part of this exercise, AICC observers were assigned to each district to review local party functioning, interact with leaders and workers, and submit reports. Based on these assessments and discussions with senior leadership, the new DCC presidents were finalised.
The move is seen as a major step in energising the Congress cadre in Tamil Nadu and preparing the organisation ahead of upcoming electoral challenges, including the 2026 Assembly elections.
