The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) recorded a historic liquor sale of ₹850 crore during the recent Pongal festival, marking one of the highest festive turnovers in the State.
Official sources said liquor sales peaked between January 14 and 17, coinciding with extended holidays and celebrations across Tamil Nadu. Heavy footfall was reported at TASMAC outlets in major cities including Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai, as well as in rural regions.
TASMAC officials attributed the surge to festive demand, smooth supply management and adequate stocking across outlets. The record sales once again underline the corporation’s significant revenue contribution during major festivals in the State.
