AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran is set to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after meeting Union Minister Piyush Goyal in Chennai on Wednesday, sources said.
The development is likely to culminate in a formal alliance agreement expected to be signed soon, reinforcing the NDAās political strategy ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
During the meeting, Dhinakaran and Goyal engaged in discussions on strengthening cooperation between the AMMK and the BJPāled NDA, with both leaders expressing optimism about the renewed partnership. The alliance talks come amid ongoing seat negotiations and campaign planning as political parties across the state realign ahead of the polls.
Political analysts say Dhinakaranās return to the NDA could help consolidate nonāDMK votes in several constituencies, potentially influencing the electoral dynamics. A formal agreement is expected to be inked later today, finalising the terms of cooperation between the AMMK and the national alliance.
The alliance is expected to publicly showcase unity at a major campaign rally in Maduranthakam on January 23, featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other NDA leaders, signalling a renewed push as the election season intensifies.
Dhinakaran said the alliance is intended to help bring back the kind of governance seen under former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, reflecting the wishes of people who want stable and effective leadership in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters from his party office, Dhinakaran stressed that his party is joining the NDA āto give good governance and fulfil public aspirations,ā and noted that disagreements within the alliance are primarily āpartner disputesā rather than fundamental political differences.
He also emphasised that those leaving or joining political fronts should not be seen as betrayals, reinforcing his intention to work with NDA members for broader state interests.
