The Chennai division of Southern Railway has collected ₹32.13 lakh as fines during special enforcement drives conducted across its network, officials said.According to a release, the drives were carried out over the past few months to curb violations and improve passenger discipline in suburban trains and railway stations. The inspections were conducted by ticket checking staff along with personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
A major portion of the fines was collected for littering on railway premises and tracks, with over 1.12 lakh cases booked. Action was also taken against men travelling in women-only coaches, with several hundred violations recorded during the drives.
In addition, fines were imposed for other offences related to unauthorised travel and disturbances on trains and station premises.
Railway officials said the special drives were aimed at ensuring cleanliness, safety and orderly travel for passengers, particularly on the busy suburban sections in and around Chennai. Passengers have been urged to follow railway rules and cooperate with officials to make train travel safer and more comfortable.
