Release ₹3,458 cr pending under Samagra Shiksha: CM to Centre

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has raised pointed questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the pending release of ₹3,458 crore under the Samagra Shiksha education scheme that the state is yet to receive from the Central government. Stalin’s remarks came ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to Tamil Nadu this week.
In a social media post in Tamil, Stalin asked when the long‑awaited education funds will be disbursed, emphasising the importance of timely financial support for the state’s schooling system. The Chief Minister also questioned several other unmet assurances, including delimitation guarantees, funding for Tamil language promotion, railway project approvals, and relief funds for natural disasters.
Stalin’s appeal echoes earlier requests made by him to the Centre for the release of pending Samagra Shiksha funds, which the state government and education stakeholders have said are crucial for continuing key school programmes without disruption. Tamil Nadu has consistently opposed linking these funds to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a stance reiterated by Stalin in previous communications with the Union government.
The release of these funds has become a contentious issue in Centre–state relations, with Tamil Nadu urging immediate disbursement to support education outcomes and related welfare initiatives across the state’s schools.
