It now seems unlikely that Jana Nayagan — the much‑anticipated film starring Vijay — will be released in the near future because of continuing legal and certification problems.
The Madras High Court has set aside a previous single judge’s order that had asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to give the film a U/A certificate, sending the issue back for fresh review and further hearings to the single judge.
The division bench of the court agreed with the CBFC’s appeal and said the board must be given proper time to respond before any certificate is issued.
This effectively reverses the earlier direction and means the film cannot get final approval until the High Court completes its full hearing. Fans and industry members have been waiting, but right now there is no confirmed release date.
Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled to release during Pongal in January, but that plan was postponed due to the certification row. The makers and the censor board are now waiting for the court’s next order, which will determine whether the film can finally get clearance to release.
Jana Nayagan stars Vijay in the lead role, with Pooja Hegde as the female lead. The film also features Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Narain, and Mamitha Baiju in key roles.
The film is directed by H. Vinoth. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while the movie is produced by Venkat K. Narayana under the banner of KVN Productions.
