The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has announced a fresh election strategy to sharpen its criticism of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government ahead of the Tamil Nadu 2026 Assembly elections. The opposition party unveiled a campaign it has dubbed the “Punishment Bill” campaign — designed to highlight rising household expenses under the current administration.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami described the initiative with the slogan roughly translated as “your household bill is the proof of DMK’s misrule.” He asserted that over the past five years of DMK governance, the state has witnessed significant inflation and an increase in prices of essential commodities, which he says has added financial strain on ordinary families across Tamil Nadu.
Under the campaign, AIADMK workers will circulate hand-printed “punishment bills” in communities to draw comparisons between household expenses now and during previous administrations. These bills are intended to visually showcase how prices for utilities and everyday household needs have reportedly climbed under the DMK government.
Palaniswami has instructed all of the party’s 82 district units, along with its IT wing, to coordinate efforts to take the campaign directly to households in urban and rural areas.
