New Delhi / Baramati: The Government of India has recovered the black box from the private aircraft that crashed near Baramati in Maharashtra on January 28, 2026, killing Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others, and has assured a transparent, time-bound investigation into the tragedy.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation informed Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a written reply that the probe, being led by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Aircraft Accident and Incident Rules, 2025, has begun in earnest and will be conducted systematically, expeditiously and within a defined timeframe.
“All technical records, operational details and evidence from the accident site are being examined,” the ministry said, emphasising cooperation with the Maharashtra government and local authorities to support the inquiry. Once completed, the final investigation report will be shared with the state government.
