Peshawar, Jan 30: Two children were critically injured in a landmine explosion in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, according to police. The incident took place in the Patnai hilly area on the outskirts of Wana tehsil in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the Afghan border. Police said the children were playing when they accidentally stepped on a suspicious polish-like container that turned out to be an explosive device. Both were rushed to DHQ Hospital in Wana; one child is reported to be in stable condition, while the other was referred to Dera Ismail Khan for advanced treatment. The explosion caused panic in the area, with many residents gathering at the site. South Waziristan has seen hundreds of landmine explosions over the past 15 years, resulting in dozens of child deaths and hundreds of injuries. In a separate incident on the same day, a man was killed in an improvised explosive device blast in Bajaur district.
