Union Minister Piyush Goyal dismissed speculation about a possible political alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, stating clearly that no such discussions have taken place.
Addressing media queries, Goyal said reports suggesting a coalition between the BJP and TVK were baseless.
He asserted that the BJP was confident of expanding its political footprint in Tamil Nadu on its own strength and did not see the need to depend on newly formed parties.
Commenting on the growing trend of film personalities entering politics, Goyal remarked that celebrity popularity does not automatically convert into electoral success.
He added that while cinema stars may enjoy a fan following, political acceptance depends on sustained grassroots work and governance credibility.
The Union Minister also criticised the ruling DMK government, alleging corruption and policies that, according to him, were against Tamil cultural values.
Goyal further expressed confidence about the BJP’s prospects in Tamil Nadu as part of the AIADMK-led NDA alliance, claiming that the ruling DMK is facing strong anti-incumbency.
“There is so much anti-incumbency against the DMK government. It is an incompetent and terribly corrupt government. Udhayanidhi Stalin (Tamil Nadu Deputy CM) represents a totally anti-Tamil culture and anti-India stance. Tamil culture never spoke in the kind of language that he is using. Tamil culture teaches us tolerance. It teaches us to celebrate different viewpoints, different thinking, different ideologies and different religions,” he said.
He claimed that growing public dissatisfaction with the State government could work in favour of the BJP in the coming elections.
