Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Nainar Nagendran has taken a sharp political dig at actor-turned-political leader Vijay, saying the star “only knows how to dance” and “knows absolutely nothing about being a leader.” The comments came after Vijay addressed a gathering on Monday at the third anniversary celebration of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), at the party’s Panaiyur office.During the event, Vijay spoke about the evolving political landscape in Tamil Nadu and positioned TVK as a major contender in the state’s upcoming assembly elections, highlighting alliances and the need for a strong alternative to the ruling parties.
Responding to reporters, Nagendran criticised Vijay’s conduct at the function, accusing him of dancing on stage instead of demonstrating political knowledge or leadership qualities. He said that someone aspiring to be a party leader should understand Tamil Nadu’s culture and politics, arguing that Vijay’s public performance was misplaced. “If he dances, he should just keep dancing,” Nagendran remarked.
Nagendran further suggested that Vijay needs to prove himself as a sincere and corruption-free leader before he can criticise others. Asserting that established political alliances are clear about who leads them — citing leaders like Edappadi K. Palaniswami (AIADMK) and Amit Shah (BJP) — he implied Vijay lacks comparable political grounding and organisational background.
