In a move aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and improving the overall travel experience, modern digital information display boards have been installed at 48 suburban railway stations under the Chennai Railway Division.According to Southern Railway, the new digital announcement boards provide real-time train information, enabling commuters to plan their journeys more efficiently. The displays offer clear updates on train arrival and departure timings, platform numbers, and service status, reducing uncertainty and confusion, especially during peak travel hours.
Railway officials said the digital boards offer better visibility compared to traditional manual display systems and are designed to be more commuter-friendly for both daily passengers and long-distance travellers. The system also improves communication during delays or operational changes, ensuring timely information reaches passengers.
The initiative forms part of Indian Railways’ broader modernisation programme to upgrade suburban rail infrastructure and passenger information systems across major urban networks. With the Chennai Suburban Railway serving lakhs of commuters every day, the installation of digital display boards is expected to significantly enhance commuter satisfaction and improve operational efficiency.
