The investigation into Kanpur’s high-profile Lamborghini crash took a fresh twist after Mohan, the alleged designated driver, claimed he—not Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco baron K K Mishra—was driving when the car rammed into pedestrians on VIP Road. Mohan said Shivam suffered a sudden seizure while seated in the car, causing him to lose control He explained that the vehicle hit a three-wheeler, climbed a divider, and stopped, with its automatic locking system delaying his exit. Mohan then shifted Shivam to the driver’s seat before stepping out. Mohan’s counsel filed a surrender application, but the Gwaltoli police did not list him as an accused in their court report. Consequently, the court refused to accept his surrender and sought a detailed report from the police. The Lamborghini Revuelto, valued over Rs 10 crore, crashed around 3 pm on Sunday in the upscale Gwaltoli area. Eighteen-year-old e-rickshaw driver Mohd Taufeeq was among the injured. Although he filed an FIR, he later reportedly settled with the driver and declined further legal action. Shivam’s counsel maintained Mohan was driving and had compensated Taufeeq for medical expenses and other losses. Shivam’s father initially supported this claim but later said he was unsure who was driving at the time. The Mishra family stated that Shivam, who suffers from epilepsy, lost consciousness during the drive and denied allegations of overspeeding or intoxication. However, the Kanpur Police rejected these claims, citing CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and videos showing a man believed to be Shivam being pulled from the driver’s seat immediately after the crash. The FIR, initially against an unidentified driver, was later amended to name Shivam as the accused. The Lamborghini has been seized for forensic examination, and the police continue to probe the circumstances of the accident. @@@
