Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has had ₹5,000 credited into the bank accounts of around 1.31 crore women across the state under the Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme, a flagship welfare programme of the state government.

According to officials, the amount includes ₹3,000 as advance payment for the months of February, March and April, along with a ₹2,000 “summer special package”. The funds were transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on Friday morning.

In a post on social media platform X, Stalin said his government acted to ensure there is no disruption to the monthly assistance ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He reiterated that the financial aid is a right for the women of the state and insisted it will continue despite any obstacles.

Stalin also announced that if his party is re-elected, the current monthly assistance of ₹1,000 will be increased to ₹2,000, under what he called the “Dravidian Model 2.0”, promising greater financial support to women in Tamil Nadu.
