The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief has praised the state government’s decision to credit ₹5,000 to women beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme. The assistance, which includes advance monthly payments and a special summer allowance, aims to provide financial support to women across the state.
Speaking to reporters, the TNCC chief said, “This is a welcome initiative for women’s empowerment. Such measures provide immediate relief and help households manage expenses, while recognizing women’s role in society.”
The scheme, launched by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, has drawn attention ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with opposition parties critiquing it as politically motivated. Supporters, including the TNCC, have defended it as a legitimate welfare measure benefiting women statewide.
