9A “white-collar” terror module recently uncovered by Jammu and Kashmir Police revealed that radicalised doctors had formed a new terror group named Ansar Interim in 2022, aiming to carry out attacks in the Union Territory and across India.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is now probing the case. The doctors involved include Muzamil Gannie, Adeel Rather, and the late Umer-un Nabi, along with Maulvi Irfan, Qari Aamir, and Tufail Gazi. Umer, the key operative behind the November 10 Red Fort blast that killed over a dozen people, had attempted to join terror groups in 2016 and 2018.
During a meeting in Srinagar’s Eidgah, roles were assigned: Adeel as Ameer, Maulvi Irfan as deputy, and Gannie as treasurer, while Umer coordinated operations and explosive procurement.
The group acquired chemicals like NPK and TATP for IED construction. Umer also attempted to recruit members for suicide attacks, though some backed out.
The network spanned Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, with plans for a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) in Delhi or at a religious site. The plot unraveled after Srinagar police arrested Gannie and seized explosives.
