The Tamil Nadu government will present the Interim Budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the State Legislative Assembly today as the House reconvenes amid growing political focus ahead of the Assembly elections later this year.
The session, which began on January 20 with the Governor’s address, will resume for the presentation of the vote-on-account. Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu is scheduled to table the interim financial statement at 9.30 a.m. at the Assembly Hall in the Secretariat.
An interim budget, usually presented in an election year, authorises government spending for the initial months of the new fiscal without introducing major policy changes. However, the statement is expected to outline key allocations for welfare, infrastructure and development in line with the government’s priorities.
Legislators are also set to take up Advance and Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2025–26 later this week, while the Business Advisory Committee will decide the duration of the session.
