The 2026–27 Interim Budget presented by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu in the Tamil Nadu Assembly has drawn sharp reactions from political leaders across parties. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin described the Budget as a reflection of the DMK government’s five-year achievements, stating that it highlights development initiatives and welfare commitments undertaken during the current tenure. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, criticised the Budget, alleging it lacked new announcements and failed to address key public concerns. The party termed it inadequate in providing relief to people. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party also criticised the financial statement, questioning fiscal management and rising debt levels. On the other hand, leaders from the Indian National Congress welcomed the Budget, stating that it focused on welfare, infrastructure and inclusive growth. The Interim Budget has thus triggered political debate ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. @@@@
