Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Chennai on March 5 as part of his party’s election-season activities in Tamil Nadu, sources in the State Congress have said. His visit comes amid intensified political activity ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The visit coincides with ongoing negotiations between the Indian National Congress and its alliance partner Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam over seat sharing, which have not yet been fully resolved. Party leaders say Gandhi will attend a meeting of Tamil Nadu Congress regional committee office bearers in the Kanchipuram district’s Karasangal area during his trip.
The announcement of the visit had been planned earlier in January, but was postponed due to the unsettled alliance talks. With the election campaign approaching, Gandhi’s arrival is being seen as a key event to energise party workers and supporters.
His visit also follows a series of high-profile political engagements in the State around this time, as parties gear up for the polls and seek to consolidate their positions.
